Our Story

When I went to visit Finland for the first time with my fiancé, I was taken aback by the scenery and lifestyle. Relaxed, friendly people, backdrops of stunning forests and lakes all with an air of calm that is rare these days. Commuting to London for all of my working life, the contrast in lifestyle was emphatic.

Then, as we meandered through the towns visiting friends and family, another thing became clear. The Finns loved their coffee and took it seriously. Very seriously.

Every home had a filter coffee machine, prominent on their kitchen worktops. No pods and the kettles rarely used for cups of tea. Coffee, was a big deal for pretty much everyone. Each cup, was fantastic, unique and made you feel alive for the day ahead. It was a same on the streets. Down the famous Esplanade, I will never forget the cup of coffee and pulla I had that day and make an effort to visit the Esplanade every trip for that experience.

It was not of a surprise to discover the Finns love their coffee so much, there are actually words in Finnish for the occasions they drink coffee. I thought I was a coffee lover, clearly not as much as these folks.

Kahvi Roast is a tribute to the Finns, their beautiful country, their way of life and their passion for coffee. Our roasts are inspired by those moments, adventures, busy days ahead, fun with friends after dinner, or feet-up in front of the fire moments where coffee works so well and has to be done right - it has to be done the Finnish way.

So please, have a #cupofsisu, let us bring those moments to your door. Below is a picture of beautiful Sysmä we took, which was one of the most wonderful inspirations for Kahvi Roast.
